House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr., D-Mich, says the committee might let Dennis Kucinich present his case for impeachment against President Bush before the August recess. One can only assume that Conyers needs just a little more time to coach the committee on not snickering in front of Kucinich as the Ohio Congressman makes the outlandish accusation that the President exaggerated the imminent threat posed by the Hussein regime in order to pressure Congress into authorizing military action.
While the Kucinich site is trumpeting this as a major step forward in the effort to hold the Executive Branch responsible for a list of crimes longer than Elizabeth's legs, Conyers quickly clarified the Judiciary Committee's intentions: "We’re not doing impeachment, but he can talk about it."
This really shouldn't come as any surprise, given the committee's reaction to three previous Kucinich petitions (House Resolutions 333, 799 and 1258), which were met with eye rolls before promptly being used to line James Sensenbrenner's parakeet cage.
If only instead of going to war under false pretenses, illegally spying on American citizens, ignoring the Geneva Convention, and watching a major southern city sink into the ground, Bush had shown his penis to a White House clerk...
