Saturday News Hole - 11.1.08

You smell like candy corn, Tequila and regret. Enjoy yourself last night?

Mere Coincidence, we Assure you
Josh Marshall over at TPM is slightly, rightly suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the reportage on Obama's Auntie Illegal. Seems the tip came out of the federal government and somehow landed at the feet of the Times of London, a Rupert Murdoch-owned publication. Not that this administration would ever leak sensitive information in the service of skewering a political opponent.

They're Getting Cleverer-er...
Apparently the new hotness chant-wise at McCain-Palin rallies is any variation on the "John McCain, not Hussein" theme. Seeing as how the crowds are no longer making direct threats on the Democratic nominee's life, I guess we can consider this a step up?

The "Because I Can" Portion of the Campaign
His boot pressing ever deeper into John McCain's throat, Obama has decided to shave off a sliver from that big pile of money and, what the hell, go after John in his home state.

PA Not as Important as You Think
According to Nate Silver, even if Obama were to lose Pennsylvania, or even win it and "give" the electoral votes to McCain, the Democratic nominee still wins the election in 89% of the simulations they've run. Now that's statistical significance you can believe in.

Studs Terkel 1912-2008
A more prolific author and historian we do not often see. He'll be missed.

And for no particular reason, a map of military activity during the Greco-Persian war.
