And rightly fucking so


In an irony I'm sure he would have appreciated, last night George Carlin became the first person to posthumously receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Why in the blue fuck it took so long--previous recipients include the funny, but less so, Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin--is anybody's guess.

But at least it happened. At least Jon Stewart and Lewis Black got to pay homage. At least what's left of Joan Rivers got to talk about sharing club space with Carlin before anyone knew who they were. At least Dennis Leary got to drop a few F-bombs.

Of everyone there, I guess Black said it best. "Without your presence among us, George, the world is a less funny place."
