Quote of the day

Congressional Quarterly's Carl Crawford on his general impressions of the GOP's performance in the first day of questioning Sonia Sotomayor:
They are coming across as a bunch of snarky and bitter old white men who cannot bear the thought of their kind losing power.
Yeah, that's pretty much on point.

Still it probably would have helped their case if the Republicans hadn't let the first guy to ask questions be Jeff Sessions, a man who the judicial committee refused to seat on the federal bench in 1986 because of his hostility to the idea of civil rights and his "gross insensitivity on racial issues". Oh well, we'll just chalk this one up as a "learning experience" and hope they do better if Obama mistakenly tries to nominate anther non-white to the Supreme Court.
