It's the newest type of cloud, the asperatus, the first new proposed cloud type added to the International Atlas of Clouds (seriously) of the World Meteorological Organization since the cirrus intortus in 1951. I think we all remember stories from our parents and grandparents telling us where they were when the cirrus intortus was added to the Cloud Atlas. Identification of this new cloud involved a complex procedure of looking up, then devising a Latin name for it. They have picked and are attempting to get the name asperatus, which means rough, officially chosen.
