Don't use the M-word

Ahh, consider the fate of America's crotchety old grampa, John McCain. Once the standard bearer of his party's shitty standard he is now forced to duke it out in a GOP primary against a man who might be more retarded than the woman he picked to be his VP running mate. Which is saying something.

So now as he's forced to duke it out in a primary with a man who believes Obama is a Kenyan, the man/horse marriage is a grave threat, and was driven from office because of his ties to Jack Abramoff. And he's in danger of losing to him. So Grampa Walnuts is doing the kind of thing that only a man of his incredible integrity and dignity can do: tack as hard to the right as possible and virulently disavow the brand you've spent the past decade annoyingly cultivating. RIP Maverick.
John McCain — who built his political persona and his 2008 presidential campaign around the claim that he’s a “maverick” — told Newsweek recently: “I never considered myself a maverick.”

When POLITICO asked McCain about the contradiction at the Capitol this week, the Arizona Republican grew visibly irritated and snapped: “I’ve been called a thousand things. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”

He said 48 percent of the homeowners in his state are underwater on their mortgages. He said he’s always “done what’s best for my state and the nation.” Then he said it again, adding, “People can consider me whatever they want.”

And then he darted into the Senate chamber without explaining himself further.
That principle: getting elected by any means necessary while getting as much TV and media face time as can possibly be stained for himself and basking in the media adoration of being called a maverick. Which you aren't allowed to call him anymore.

Furthermore, he's not sure why anyone would even use that term to refer to him. I mean it's as if you go and spend the better part of several years, including a Presidential campaign, calling yourself that, calling your running mate that, noting how you're a team of that forbidden word, and constantly referring to yourself with that word so much that it became a running joke... well it's almost like people will keep using that word to describe you. The outrage! Don't they know he's not a maverick and has never heard the word before? He's a dyed in the wool Republican who would never shun the party for his own shallow political goals.

We'd just like to salute Senator McCain for hitting that final low point. We thought it came when he tarnished his entire reputation as a man of integrity an honor by running a third rate, gutter dwelling, half-witted campaign. No, it was when, in an attempt to beat a blithering idiot in a primary, he renounced the word and principles he practically tried to get people to use instead of his name.

Maybe there's a lower point, like running with Sarah Palin again or attempting to get votes by barking like a dog or being part of a County Fair dunktank in full clown make-up, but I don't see that happening. Unless JD Hayworth really looks like he's going to win. Then McCain might try to call himself the Original Hayworth and claim he has proof of Obama's Kenyan heritage. It's a complex process being the Man With The Most Integrity In Washington. The pressure is apparently getting to him. Let's hope he goes crazy in a more entertaining way than this.

Catholic Sisters Support Passage of Healthcare Bill
The nuns have weighed in on the health care bill and they find it acceptable. Not only that but they, as is their way, take to scolding those who make "false claims to the contrary" about the abortion provisions of the bill. Who are those who make "false claims to the contrary"? The Catholic Bishops. Don't fuck with the nuns, boys, you'll get a goddamn ruler across the knuckles.

Social Immobility: Climbing The Economic Ladder Is Harder In The U.S. Than In Most European Countries

Dan Froomkin brings to light a study from the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development that show s that the capitalist hating, socialist, weak kneed, health care havers in Europe actually foster a society that is more open to generational movement along socioeconomic ladders than the United States of Freedom, despite our full of shit, blowhard claims to the contrary. If you're born poor and want a good shot to make it out of poverty and into the penthouse? Move to Scandinavia. If you're born poor and want to stay poor? Stay here, as a bonus you'll get to hear a lot of hot air about how you can become anything you want while the system conspires against you and tells you you must be lazy or deficient for not beating a rigged game.

Kucinich To Vote Yes On Health Care Reform--Here's Why
Ahh, pity the man with a conscience. Sure Kucinich isn't a fan of the bill and would prefer, ad has worked for, a better health care plan for the people of this country. But unfortunately principled objection puts you on the side of the people screaming about liquefying grandma and doesn't actually improve people's health care. It's a shame he's just not a political nihilist who doesn't care what happens to Americans and is willing to destroy the whole thing in a petty temper tantrum. Then he probably could have gotten what he wanted. You know, like Stupak, Nelson, and Lieberman did. Damn his sense of shame. At the very least he has a very, very hot wife who will console him.

C-Span Puts Full Archives on the Web
Are you like me? A ruggedly handsome, semi-inebriated blogger who sometimes just looks into the sky and scream "Why God? Why can't I find anywhere that has video of a 1990 House Amending Motion to name a Post Office after Audie Murphy?" Well we're in luck, because finally C-SPAN is putting every single shred of video they have online. Get a IV drip and hold open you eyes Clockwork Orange style, because I think we both just found out what we're going to be watching for the next couple of months.

Hawaii Birthers Bill: State May Start Ignoring Requests For Obama Citizenship
How annoying are the Obama birthers who, despite the appearance of Obama's birth certificate and assurances from several Hawaiian officials that the man is a US citizen, still believe he's a sleep agent Muslim from Kenya? Well they driven the Hawaiian legislature to consider a law ignoring all Obama birth certificate requests in the name of saving time, money, and sanity of the people who actually have to respond to these kooks. I think you can see where this is going: the Obama birthers view this move as part of the greater Obama birth conspiracy and redouble their efforts, causing Hawaii more pain. You can't win with these people, Hawaii, you can't win.

Fake ID! Kenyan! Moselm!

We all know that the President is a foreign sleeper agent who, after his birth in Kenya, was smuggled into this country, given falsified documents forging his US citizenship, indoctrinated in the ways of communism, socialism, Islam, and radical black nationalism, set with the fairly easy task of becoming a viable Presidential candidate, and then going and getting elected...with help from George Soros and ACORN. I know it, you know it, Orly Taitz knows it, and Sarah Palin knows it.

But as we try to unravel this nefarious global conspiracy (the body count of those who have tried to expose this truth has to be somewhere in the tens of thousands), we never thought that little Barry Soetoro himself would provide us with a gun so smoking, that the truth can barely be seen. From his Kennedy Centers speech to Mossad agent Mel Brooks.
Unfortunately, many of the punch lines that have defined Mel Brooks' success cannot be repeated here. I was telling him that I went to see Blazing Saddles -- -- when I was 10. And he pointed out that I think, according to the ratings, I should not have been allowed in the theater. That's true. I think I had a fake ID. But the statute of limitations has passed.
Where did you get this fake ID? Was it from the same fake ID that was used to gain you US citizenship... BECAUSE YOU WERE BORN IN MOMBASA!?!? Fake birth certificates, fake ID's, and Mel Brooks vehicles starring Gene Wilder and Slim Pickens? My God, it all makes so much sense now. This is going in the file. This will be part of the new batch of lawsuits. You got too cocky, Mr. Soetoro, now we have enough to take you down.

Confusion

So.....Barry's a Brit now? I'm finding it hard to find the wellspring of xenophobic fear that an ethnicity like "Indonesian" can gin up.

He's still Black and Muslim, right? I can still be afraid of those two things, right? Good.

Kudos on the monkey usage. There's racist dog whistling and then there's classy racist dog whistling. Gentlemen, you are walking that fine line.

Sotomayor shows she's no Clarence Thomas as Supreme Court opens
New Liberal Hispanic Satan took her seat on the Supreme Court Monday and thanks to some reinforcement of the court's foundations, the ground did not open up and swallow everyone whole. One interesting note: she apparently asked more question in on hour than Justice Clarence Thomas has asked...ever. And that's not an exaggeration. He hasn't spoken in court in years. Way to put that seat to good use Clarence. I don't see why anyone would want to use that seat to ask questions before deciding stuff. Rookie mistake, Sotomayor, rookie mistake.

Shroud Of Turin Reproduced; Italian Group Says Relic Is Man-Made, Fake
If there's one thing I've learned over the years is that religions in general tend to respond really positively when scientists come in with facts, figures, experiments, means testing, and evidence to back up their claims towards aspects of science and the natural world. So I'm sure they'll be extra happy now that science has used its powers to start chipping away at religious dogma and relics.

Burden of Proof on Obama's Origins
Hey, didn't you think it would be a great idea to read a story about the lead nut "investigating" the Obama birth certificate "controversy", Orly Taitz, that treated her as just a normal working mom trying to uncover all the vast insane conspiracies she believes in? No? Well fuck you, because the Washington Post did. Because what this country needs is for more newspapers to spend more time profiling everyone with a crackpot conspiracy about the President.

Obama quietly tries to shore up Senate support for public option
According to the LA Times, President Obama and the White House have been working for the last few weeks now to make sure that a public option is included in any final health care bill. Hey great, better to push for it at the end instead of twisting arms in the beginning, right? No? It would have been better to push hard for this months ago instead of spending all that time undercutting the public plan with statements about how a public plan isn't important? Ah well, at least this will allow them to offer up a meek "we tried" when there's no public option and thus no real mechanism for driving down costs.

No Exit: The never-ending lunacy of Betsy McCaughey.

Did you ever wonder where every crazy conspiracy, shoddy statistic, outright lie, and death panel type rumor in our health care debate came from? Chances are it came from long time health reform advocate Betsy McCaughey. I don't know what's more stunning: that so much bullshit can be generated by one person or that she's still taken somewhat seriously by our mainstream media betters.

As Seen On TV! Birthermercial Asks, Where Was Obama Really Born?
I kind of wish I thought of this. No, not the "Obama is a Kenyan, show us the birth certificate" conspiracy. As you can see from our Broken News and Broken in Brief pieces, Sean and I aren't that creative. No, the part where I create a bullshit infomercial about it and then charge suckers $30 for a bumper stickers and a fax to 50 state attorney generals and Eric Holder. Though this might create a problem where state attorney generals are just being forwarded a list of the craziest individuals in America with disposable incomes and free time. At least that's helpful to the rest of America.

Tea Party Founder Announces: "A Huffington Post Of Our Own"
You people do not disappoint. Now I'm not going to have to read up to 10 different sites to keep track of all the bizarre conspiracies that the government is involved in. Now I can get my crazy content aggregated. If I can also get some critiques of red carpet fashions, a site runner with an accent, and video of stuff that happened on TV, I can just jettison the HuffPo entirely.

France, Poland want Polanski released on bail
Just a word of advice to any French cultural ministers, actors, film buffs, and the two HuffPo bloggers that already have decried Polanski's arrest: stop wasting my time with bullshit about how he's the real victim, and sure rape is bad but everyone else affiliated with the case is worse, and "isn't being forced to live abroad as a millionaire director punishment enough?". Just say "Rosemary's Baby and Chinatown were really fucking good, I don't care how many 13 year-olds he drugs, rapes, and sodomizes" and be done with it. It's a lot easier than going through 700 words to find out that's what you really wanted to say anyway.

A Presidential Olympic Bid
Hey, I don't have any real idea of the Presidential schedule, but doesn't Barry have better things to do than to fly over to Copenhagen to push for Chicago's Olympic bid? I mean sure, I hate the time delays as much as anyone, but really, a special trip? Is Chicago in dire need of a world class diving arena? Ah, what the hell, it's Yom Kippur, government's probably shut down. You go get Chicago that cycling velodrome its wanted, Barry. You go get it.

New Cheney Taking Stage for the G.O.P.
Whew! I was worried for a while that this country would have to go on for too long without the amoral, crooked, grunting spawn of the hellbeast lying to the American public from a position of influence within the GOP. If only some state would bless us with Liz Cheney in the House of Senate, I think I could die happy....in whatever nuclear conflict she'd invariably provoke us into. C'mon, doesn't George H.W. Bush have any ignorant grandkids we could pair her up with?

The "Intolerance" Party? GOP Strategists Worry Ideologues Are Bad For The Party's Future
Some within the GOP are waking up to the idea that maybe, just maybe, having Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck as the main faces of your party is...well let's be charitable and say...not good. They want to grab the party back from the ideologues. One thing, no...two things. First, don't you actually have to have ideas to be an ideologue? Secondly, if 58% of your party has problems believing that Barry was born in the US, can you really save the the party from the overwhelming majority of itself?

Health Care Reform: Sick and Wrong
If you're like me, a cheap fucker who can't be bothered to pay actual money for printed material, Rolling Stones has put up this handy little series of video clips whereupon Matt Taibbi explains the reasoning and arguments behind his new "Democrats are rotten fuckers" health care article, currently in the "Why the Beatles Broke Up" issue. This should hold you over until they put the full article up for free and you can spend your precious money on something worthwhile, like cheap gin.

Tort Reform Unlikely to Cut Health Care Costs
Among the smaller arguments made by Republicans arguing against health care reform, is that they'd like to talk about serious reforms but the Democrats have taken the most important issue off the table (tort reform of medical malpractice lawsuits) because they're run by trial lawyers. It's not an argument you hear often because, let's face it, is has none of the zip of "They're gonna kill granny." But now someone has bothered to look at the issue and has come to the conclusion that...it wouldn't reduce costs at all. Oh well, back to the grandma killing well.

Stephen Fry: In search of the planet's most endangered species
The great Stephen Fry has just finished his newest project: searching out and documenting some of the world's rarest and endangered species. A mission he carries out in honor of his friend, the late author Douglas Adams. He has a book coming out about the journey called Last Chance to See, and the first installment on the journey is up on the Guardian website on the search to find the Giant Jumping Rat of Madagascar and New Zealand's Man-Eating Parrot, which, sadly, isn't 6 feet tall.

iPhone App Finds Disease Outbreaks Near You
Oh iPhone, is there anything you can't do? Now, with the help of your fellow citizens, you can be alerted to when any assholes start plaguing your area with their pig-related AIDS, zombie infections, and Entitilitus. When someone sees evidence of a plague outbreak red pin points appear on a Google map along with links to the news story, nearby medical supply depots that sell flu masks in bulk are identified, and links to guns stores where you can buy shotguns powerful enough to take the head off of one of the shambling undead are highlighted.

Now you can be born in Kenya, just like our President

Want your own certificate of birth from Kenya, but have the misfortune of being born in America and have no sufficiently crazy political opponents ready to forge documents and waste countless hours of their time try to prove this fact about you? In step the people of Kenyan Birth Certificate Generator, now you can have your own official document proving your top secret birth in an African country. You'll have to invent the conspiracy to cover this fact up and get you into a position of power on your own time. It even looks like an Australian birth certificate, just like Obama's!

Sure, you'll know it's a fake, but thousands of idiots on right wing message boards will believe it's unquestionable proof of your Kenyan birth. You might even get a personally delivered hate screed from G. Gordon Liddy. He might even plot to murder you! In the end, as long as one of your parents was an American citizen, it won't affect your eligibility to take elected office even if it were true, but you tell trying your new found hate filled political enemies that. It's all part of the conspiracy.

Unions To Take On Conservative Groups Health Care Town Halls
You know what's even better than teabaggers and other right wing groups trying to shut down health care town halls and harass lawmakers? Teamsters and trade unionists vowing to "directly engage" hooting conservatives. Directly engage with lead pipes or just brass knuckles? I can't wait for it. "Health care is socialism! Barack Hussein is a Muslim!", "Hey youze! I 'll show yinzs assholes socialism. Shuddafuckup!", then "Gangs of New York" style mob rioting. I think this is the part right here where I'm supposed to sing "God Bless America."

White House Affirms Deal on Drug Cost
Hey, it's the Democrats looking out for you once again on health care. Turns out earlier announcements that the pharmaceutical industry had made a deal with the White House to voluntarily make efforts to save $80 billion (which means there's much, much more than that to actually be saved) had a few unannounced conditions attached. Namely that Congress wouldn't attempt to get them to save one cent more or have government negotiate drug prices. Boy, this all sounds so promising for real health care reform.

Man Offers 40 Goats And 20 Cows For Chelsea Clinton's Hand In Marriage
This was the proposed dowry offered by a Kenyan man to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her only daughter. Secretary Clinton promised to relay the offer to Chelsea, but tried not to fill the man with to much hope. However Bill was more open to the idea, provided the animals came pre-butchered for storage in his meat freezer and the beef ribs were hickory smoked.

Robinson can’t recall anything quite this nuts. Like everyone else, we can
Gene Robinson claims he can't recall anything from the right wing as crazy as the Obama birth stuff. The Daily Howler obliges to refresh his memory and runs down a greatest hits of the things that we widely held lunatic beliefs against Bubba, Hill-Dawg, and our moon worm riding former VP. No one's accusing Barry of running murder/drug ring....yet.

Staten Island mom settles suit with Little League and coaches over knee injury
Reason #34528940A of why I hate this country. A woman just got $125,000 because she sued the little league after her precious booger eater tore up his knee because he slides into bases like a spaz. Enjoy the money, kid, I hope it makes up for the endless ridicule and abuse you'll suffer from every kid in your district who hears about this.

Paris' Dog House Is Damn Comfortable!!
Reason #34528940B of why I hate this country. Paris Hilton just built a $325,000 300 sq. ft. house....for her dogs. That's right, Paris Hilton has a dog house worth more than your house. And you still think there's a God.

Really, 42%?

You always wonder why Republican lawmakers and pundits are always eager to stake out the most bizarre corners of the political debate, such as the Obama birth certificate "scandal", and spend their time flogging dead horses in a manner that causes actual crazy people to stop and go "Yeah, you're fucking nuts." But, as it seems, they aren't just doing it for kicks, they're doing it to appeal to the craziest, fringe, "I saw Sasquatch driving a UFO" section of the US public: the Republican base. For example:
A new Research 2000 poll, sponsored by the site DailyKos, finds broad traction among Republican voters for the belief that President Obama was not born in the United States.

Yes No Not sure
Dem 93 4 3
Rep 42 28 30
Ind 83 8 9

With nearly a third of Republicans believing the theory, you can see why Republican politicians are inclined to treat it with some respect.
58% of the Republican party isn't sure Barry was born in the US. And you wonder why lawmakers are so eager to wallow in the fever swamps, they might not get re-elected unless they get with the new Republican orthodoxy: tax cuts, name everything after Reagan, oppose anything a Democrat or vaguely effeminate person wants, tax cuts, try to get another war stated somewhere in the Middle East, and Barack Hussein Obama was born in Kenya, smuggled to Hawaii where documents were forged to falsify his birth as part of a larger conspiracy that involves madrassas, secret Muslim indoctrination, and the winning of the Presidency. It all seems so plausible, no wonder so many believe it.

Thumbs up 58%ers, you keep bringing the crazy. Hey, where the fuck was Joe Biden born anyway?

Tenacious G
New York Magazine asks the question: Is Goldman Sachs evil or just too good? The conclusion they come up with is that they're good at being evil. But new information abounds, as it turns out that Goldman was close to collapse there for a while. I think I just heard Matt Taibbi sigh sadly.

Obama administration reveals evidence of global warming kept secret under Bush
That's right, under the Bush Administration they classified satellite photographs showing that arctic ice was rapidly melting. That's right, ice and US Geological Survey topographical studies were deemed sensitive information. But now that the photos have been released surely this new scientific information will convince guys like James Inhofe of the reality of the situation.

MANSON COURTS SPECTOR BEHIND BARS
Yes, Charles Manson is trying to set up a prison recording session with Phil Spector. Charlie still has those delusions of musical superstardom, good to see he's keeping the dream alive. Hopefully this ends better than Charlie's attempts to get Brian and Dennis Wilson to produce his music. What was it Dennis said? "Chuckles, I'd rather see Sharon Tate and all her friends murdered by your minions than have to listen to your fucking demo of 'Cease to Exist' one more goddamn time"? Hopefully Phil lets him down easier.

Gates, Crowley To Join Obama For Beers On Thursday
Our long national nightmare ends as President Obama finally sits down to drink a beer with the loudmouth professor and the blowhard cop who have transfixed the nation with their childish actions. Though given the interaction between Gates and Crowley when they were sober, should we really be introducing booze into the equation?

Why markets can’t cure healthcare
Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman gets all economical up in this bitch as he explains how because of costs and the very nature of medical care that the free market can't properly regulate health care. This marks the 1000th straight time Paul Krugman will make a trenchant and valid point immediately relevant to the current issues debate that will be promptly ignored by the elected betters he allegedly shares the same side of the ideological spectrum with.

House passes resolution that states Obama was born in Hawaii, 378-0
Childish political gamesmanship is taken to new levels as Obama birthers were forced to vote on a bill commemorating Hawaii's 50th anniversary as a state that had been augmented to include a reference to the state being the birthplace of one Barack Hussein "Born in Mombassa" Obama. The potential for crazy 'birther' speeches seemed to be ready for blastoff as Michelle Bachmann blocked a simple voice vote on the uncontroversial measure and made it go to a floor vote. But, shockingly, sense prevailed within the GOP caucus as the conspiracy freaks either held their nose and voted for a lie or bravely skipped the vote. In case you're wondering why health care can't get passed it's because our elected betters spend most of their time dicking around with this kind of petty bullshit.

Broken In Brief: Immigration officials arrest Lou Dobbs on questions of humanity

CNN anchor and xenophobic jackass, Lou Dobbs

EARTH—Immigration officials from the INS have arrested and begun deportation proceedings against CNN host Lou Dobbs over questions surrounding the TV and radio personality's status as a member of the human race. While Dobbs maintains a New Jersey residence and claims to have been born in Texas, the INS is reporting the discovery of evidence suggesting he is actually a native of the planet Vogsphere and therefore an undocumented immigrant.

This initial immigration sweep is part of the government’s newly unveiled Turnabout Is Fair Play (TIFP) initiative, wherein right-wing blowhards are subjected to the kinds of hearsay, fear mongering, half-assed conspiracies, deluded accusations, lack of intellectual rigor, and factual wastelands that they traditionally inflict upon the growing constituencies of their political enemies.

The evidence, first discovered on the internet and immediately dismissed as lunacy, claims that Dobbs is one of several alien Vogon agents posing as public figures while gathering intelligence on Earth and its people in preparation for the planet's complete destruction in order to make room for an interstellar highway. The documents go on to explain that Dobbs was cast out of Vogon society when, in 2006, the plump, pandering populist publicly distanced himself from the Republican Party. Nevertheless, he continues to monitor and occasionally influence news media.

TIFP team members were reportedly ecstatic at the revelation of this fraudulent material because it allowed them to charge Dobbs with being an illegal immigrant, a section of society the corpulent ape has railed against for years. What they were most excited about was the added benefit of charging him with being the member of a fictional species from a fictional solar system from a series of science fiction comedy novels, so as to more completely make a sarcastic point about the nature of his criticisms about President Obama’s country of origin.

Lawyers for Dobbs, who is said to be working on his third volume of poetry, did not return calls for comment on these charges.
