Not getting it

Karl Rove is a busy man. Not only does he have the time to do commentary for Fox News, write a book, cut a bloody swath through the fact-checking community, give Stephen Colbert new ham based material, engage in the black arts that keep his 3,000 year old body alive for one more 24-hour period ,take pride in torture, and poison the area gopher population for free around his local community, but he also has time to make extremely loaded statements that show little to no self awareness of that administration he was in and that President he served.

ROVE:...they let a cowboy president try to act in an extra-constitutional way to violate a fundamental principle in the Constitution, all without having done their homework in advance.

What's Karl talking about? Is that a reference to himself letting Bush and Cheney run wild? Is he trying to blame other staffers for the mistakes and crimes of the Bush Administration? Is he trying to place blame on Congressional Democrats and Republicans for failing to utilize their oversight on the White House?

No, he's attacking the Obama Administration for not sitting back and allowing a military coup overthrow the democratically elected President of Honduras. Of course he is. You know maybe we should take him at his word on this. I mean if anyone could deadeye a cowboy President violating the Constitution at 100 paces, it's Karl Rove. Hell he studied at the feet of the master for nearly eight years. He could teach the course.

On the other hand, he clearly doesn't understand what's in our Constitution, so how can we expect him to know what's in Honduras' Constitution or even where Honduras is?

But the man is an expert on homework. I mean how could you accuse your opponent of fathering a black lovechild out of wedlock if you hadn't done the research to learn that they adopted a Bangladeshi child ahead of time?

No, he's an expert. We should listen to him. Obama: let military coups go through! We all saw what wonders it did for Haiti. Remember to send that thank you note to Bush, Cheney, and Rove.

Karl Rove Agrees To Testify

In an agreement reached today between the former Bush Administration and Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Karl Rove and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers will testify before the House Judiciary Committee in transcribed depositions under penalty of perjury. The Committee has also reserved the right to have public testimony from Rove and Miers. It was agreed that invocations of official privileges would be significantly limited.

The Committee will also receive Bush White House documents relevant to this inquiry. Under the agreement, the landmark ruling by Judge John Bates rejecting key Bush White House claims of executive immunity and privilege will be preserved. If the agreement is breached, the Committee can resume the litigation.

Chairman Conyers issued the following statement:

"I have long said that I would see this matter through to the end and am encouraged that we have finally broken through the Bush Administration's claims of absolute immunity. This is a victory for the separation of powers and congressional oversight. It is also a vindication of the search for truth. I am determined to have it known whether U.S. Attorneys in the Department of Justice were fired for political reasons, and if so, by whom."

I'm sure this will result in tons and tons of answers and not more claims of privilege while under questioning, declarations of 'not remembering', or telling the questioners 'I don't know, you'll have to ask Dick Cheney' followed by a laugh. But hey, at least it's something.

Though can we not hear all the triumphalism about this being a tremendous victory for oversight and Congressional powers? It isn't a victory, it's a pathetic, staggering first baby step. If you wanted to show them how things really worked you would have slapped Karl and Harriet in leg irons they second they illegally violated a subpoena, not spent two years 'negotiating' with them to perform their legally mandated duty. Furthermore Rove got to evade public hearings, which is a win for him. But I guess getting two people to provisionally agree to follow the law on the 17th most damaging thing the Bush Administration did is probably the most successful version of 'oversight' or 'power' Democrats had.

Just when Congressional Democrats had finally started to question the wisdom of having political operatives work out of the White House solely for partisan purposes but nonetheless collecting a taxpayer funded salary, Karl Rove emerged from his crypt under a rock, beneath the bottom of a barrel, to remind everyone that yes, he is an amoral piece of shit. Former White House adviser Karl Rove defied a congressional subpoena and refused to testify Thursday about allegations of political pressure at the Justice Department, including whether he influenced the prosecution of a former Democratic governor of Alabama.

They apparently had the nerve to ask him to come in officially and answer questions under oath. Karl wanted to chat “informally” about the U.S. Attorney purge scandal, not under oath, and with no transcript or official record of the discussion. Y'know, conditions that would assure he'd tell the truth.

Citing God knows what, Turdblossom's lawyer argued that the Rover “is immune from compelled Congressional testimony” and that while Karl was certainly above the law, there remained a chance that when provided with sufficient weaponry, Karl Rove IS THE LAW. Citing the precedent of "kiss his white ass" and "because I said so", Rove isn't going to testify under any circumstance where he can be prosecuted for the massive lies he'll have to tell to avoid prosecution for the massive crimes he's committed.

It remains up to the Judiciary committee and the Speaker to pursue contempt charges, but things look good on that front as Speaker Pelosi is amassing armies of gay, San Francisco communists with San Francisco values to apprehend Rove, while Judicial chairman John Conyers already went on the record stating “We’re closing in on Rove. Someone’s got to kick his ass.”
