We need cash...stat!

G.M. Loses $9.6 Billion as Its Struggles Continue
The automaker General Motors said Thursday that its cash reserves were down to $14 billion at the end of 2008, a year when the industry’s worst sales slump in decades nearly forced the company into bankruptcy before the federal government gave it a lifeline.

G.M. lost $30.9 billion, or $53.32 a share, in 2008 and spent $19.2 billion of its cash reserves.

For the fourth quarter, it lost $9.6 billion, or $15.71 a share, as its global sales fell 26 percent. It spent $6.2 billion of its reserves — $2 billion a month — in the fourth quarter alone. The company has said in the past that it needed a minimum of $11 billion to $14 billion in reserves to finance operations, but the estimates were made before the recent drop in auto sales and cuts by G.M. in response.
Wait, people still aren't buying GM cars? Rick Wagoner drove in a hybrid for you ingrates! From Detroit to Washington! He pretended to know what an electric car was! He said hydrogen! Fuel cell! You still have the nerve not to buy his cars? Fine, now he's going to have to reduce himself to begging from Barry even harder. Are you happy now? Has he debased himself enough now?

Luckily he gets to grovel in private this time as today he meets with his new overlords Barry, Timmy Geithner (tax-cheat), and Law-Dog Summers. Rick has already promised to garrote Saturn, Hummer, and Saab, and has commenced pleading with the greedy unions, whose workers make upwards of $700 a second to grab ass with the robots building the cars and organize beer league softball teams, to stop holding them to the deals they signed. Hopefully Barry will deign to have pity on this pitiable CEO, who by the fickle combination of an economic crisis and decades of poor management has been left with only billions in cash reserves and hunks of useless metal cluttering the eyelines of a disinterested buying populace. Let's hope Barry has a couple billions worth of mercy for this poor man.

The week in These Bastards

Over a week ago you learned of the heretofore top secret existence of These Bastards, the internet's only source of political commentary & fake news. You've become enthralled with our inexplicable Fritz Haber jokes and marveled as we've become the internet's main source of 'John McCain is Tigh from Battlestar Galactica' references. It's been a busy first week for us at These Bastards as well. Sean moved residences from under one bridge to another, so to better lure wayward billy goats to their doom. Whereas I learned to control all the thoughts of Madeline Albright. All this while straining under blogging conditions that threatened to deplete both our bile sacs and pull our invective muscles.

So the ground rules: all the fake news pieces are under the header 'Broken News' and feature the same tag. There are three as of now and the plan is to put up two a week. If you like it or one of our many spiteful posts don't hesitate to digg it, send it to someone, link it, build a statue to us, or formulate a religion based on our hatred of things. We are not famous after a week and that can only be blamed on the audience. So due diligence people. Formulate your lives around promoting us and spend your time (to the detriment of your professional career and social life) constantly refreshing and reloading this site until you see a new post. THEY CAN COME AT ANY TIME!

We look forward to continuing this blog until such a time as we are arrested for our many secret and vile crimes that cannot be repeated out loud as it would constitute public indecency and mind corruption.

Rex Gildo shows us the way.

Free agency starts soon for the NHL and it's filled with trepidation for us Penguins fans. We've already lost Malone and Roberts, and the upcoming days could see us lose Orpik, Eaton, Dupuis, Ruutu, Laraque, Sydor and Conklin. Keeping that in mind, These Bastards would just like to take up a cause on behalf of Penguins fans.

hossa head

PLEASE DON'T GO! Everything was working out so well. Don't make us spend another season looking for a winger for Crosby. We found him: MARIAN HOSSA! What's it gonna take? Do we need to sign Marcel? Will it help if I play that inexplicable '70's German kitsch song about Mexico, that sounds like it's about you? Fine, I'll do it.

It's an easy 100 points this year, plus at least 50 million dollars. What's wrong with that? Don't make us sign Kristian Huselius or Ruslan Fedotenko. It won't be the same. Please stay. We'll get you John McCain's plane. Pens owner Ron Burkle will bring the ladies on his plane. It'll be a FIESTA MEXICANA!!!
