Future Presidents safe from Iraqi shoes

Iraqi shoe-thrower sentenced to three years in jail
The Iraqi journalist who hurled his shoes at George Bush, gaining instant hero status in much of the Arab world, has today been sentenced to three years in prison.

Muntazer al-Zaidi, 30, who worked for the al-Baghdadiya television channel, shouted "Long live Iraq" when the sentence was read out.

Zaidi had earlier pleaded not guilty and said his actions were a "natural response to the occupation".

He was given the three-year sentence for assaulting a foreign head of state during an official visit.
Three years for a shoe. I guess he's lucky he decided against wearing boots that day, or the deadly wingtip. He even gets credit for assaulting Bush, even though the spry bastard ducked both loafers with all the agility of a squirrel. Shouldn't it be attempted assault? Shouldn't he be chastised for missing?

I bet you're thinking that 3 years is harsh, well it could have been 15. The judge let al-Zahidi off light because of his "age and clean record." At the least the masses love him. Recent polling shows 62% of the country view him as a hero, while 24% view him as a crook. 24%. What is it about Bush that engenders him to that amount of popularity/support/solidarity wherever he goes? Charisma, I guess. Friends and family are predicting a political career for al-Zahidi whenever he gets out of prison.....provided he doesn't get beaten and tortured too severely like when he was initially under arrest.

Soak it in America, this is what we bought with our billions. Enjoy it.
