BAAAAAAAAHM!

The SoundWorks Collection is a perverse coterie of freaks who enjoy explaining and celebrating the work of sound design in films and the sexual thrills that large microphones and recording gunfire gives them.

As part of their new series looking at the good films that were released this summer, they've produced two new videos on Inception and Toy Story 3... and nothing else. That sounds about right.

"Inception" Sound for Film Profile from Michael Coleman on Vimeo.

Sound design involves a lot more careless gunplay and wanton van shooting than I previously assumed. Still, no explanation for how the gut punching BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHM sounds were made. Goddammit I need that as my ringtone or text message sound! Get on it, SoundWorks. GET ON IT!

Star Wars was right

There is sound in space. Specifically from the sun. So says the University of Sheffield.

Well, it's a little bit Ambient 1: Music for Airports era Eno, but it's still pretty cool. For those of you wanting a translation, the sun is singing "I AM THE SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!" It's just variations on that definitive declaration of awesomeness.
